2026 Winter Olympics: How is USA doing?
By: Vio Levrini
The Winter Olympics of 2026 recently began on February 2nd and so far, it’s looking very promising for team USA. Winter sports aren’t the most common here in the sunshine state of Florida, so the Winter Olympics can be hard to follow. But supporting team USA might still be something you want to do, so here’s how they’re doing this year.
Following an amazing performance in Beijing in the 2022 Winter Olympics where team USA brought home a grand total of 25 medals (9 of which were gold)—though this year’s Winter Olympics have just begun—team USA is already showing strong signs that we’ll do just as good if not better this year.
This year we have brought 232 athletes, all of which are out for gold. So far, Breezy Johnson won the very first gold medal of the year in women’s downhill skiing and the U.S. figure skating team has secured gold as well in the team competition, and it only gets better from there. For the first time since 1976, Ben Ogden has won a medal in cross-country skiing for team USA, receiving a silver medal in the freestyle ski. In addition, both Jackie Wiles and Paula Moltzan have won bronze in the team downhill.
Though the 2026 Winter Olympics have just begun, team USA already seems to be proving to us that once again that we have a very strong chance at coming out on top. Soon, the fight for gold in Men’s hockey will begin, so be sure to tune into one of the most popular Winter Olympic sports and watch team USA Captain Auston Matthews and every other talented player as they win gold. Whether you enjoy watching the Olympics or if you appreciate winter sports or not, it’s always fun to cheer on the dedicated athletes who represent USA while overseas in Milan. With less than two weeks to go, stay hopeful, and go team USA!
