American director and filmaker David Lynch has died at age 78 on January 15th. Last August, lynch announced he was battling emphysema, a chronic lung condition, after many years of smoking.  

Lynch was best known for his surrealist style of filmmaking. Some of his popular works include the films Blue Velvet, Muholland Drive, and the TV show Twin Peaks. The four time Oscar nominee and 2019 Academy Honorary Award winner was recognized by the film community as a unique and visionary artist.
