Dress Code Violations Tripled In St. Johns County

In this year alone, the St. Johns County school district has issued almost three times the amount of dress code violations given out during previous years. In the SJCSD, over 500 dress code violations have been issued as of late April, and they haven’t stopped. In Bartram, there have been only thirty-three violations reported, which does not include the warnings issued or the unreported instances. At Creekside, however, over 300 have been issued and recorded, which is triple the total amount distributed in the 2019-2020 school year. With this significant increase, students and parents have stood up to change these rules, as some parents say the dress code is sexist because a recent study shows almost 90% of all dress code violations sent out at Bartram have been towards girls. And for the entire district, almost 85% of all dress code violations were given to girls. Once parents realized their children were being taken out of class to be dealt with regarding the dress code, they figured something needed to be done. One mother decided to create a Facebook account that now has over 700 followers, and it regards what St. Johns County School District needs to change concerning their dress code. With these adults standing up to the school district, some regulations may change in the near future.
