Security Gets a Boost

The house recently proposed legislation providing $1.9 Billion to improve security at the capitol, after the insurrection on January 6th. The bill would provide funding for fences, and improvements to windows and doors. It would also establish a D.C. Guard meant to respond to any threats to the capitol. Republicans largely oppose the bill claiming it is lacking proper input and wasting taxpayer money that could be utilized better elsewhere. Additionally, three Democrat representatives being Omar, Bush, and Pressley claim the bill is ignoring underlying threats of White Supremacy and radicalization, prioritizing a broken system that upholds the supremacist violence seen on January 6th. Despite the backlash, the bill was narrowly approved.
