Teacher of the Year for St. Johns County
Recently, Andrew Burk, the band director of Valley Ridge Academy won teacher of the year. Since 2019, he has been teaching sixth, seventh, and eighth graders at VRA. Along with being a band director, Andrew Burk has made many other musical accomplishments. This includes being a co-founder of Collegiate Music Education Day and working with Senate and House representatives to advocate for music education. In the classroom, he puts a big emphasis on working as a team as well as personal responsibility. Burk has allowed three college interns in his classroom to introduce to a life as being a band director. After winning Teacher of the Year, he will receive a $500 gift card to staples as well as a car from Beaver Toyota. He also, will represent St. Johns County in the statewide Teacher of the Year competition as well as be involved in a leadership program with former winners.
