Upcoming Free ACT + Study and Preparation Tips
By Isabella Hayes
As a student getting ready to take the ACT, I’ve learned that preparing early and studying smart makes a huge difference. The ACT can feel overwhelming, but with the right habits, it becomes much more manageable.
The first step to being prepared is to understand the test. The ACT has three main sections: English, Math, Reading, with an optional writing and science section. Knowing each section of the test helps you focus on your studies. Taking a full practice test early is especially helpful because it shows your strengths and weaknesses and gets you used to the timing and knowing what to study more.
Consistency is more important than cramming. Studying a little each day works better than trying to learn everything the week before the test. Free online resources, ACT prep books, and school provided materials are great tools to use.
Time management is also key. The ACT moves quickly, so practicing under timed conditions is essential. Learning when to move on from a hard question and come back later can save value minutes. That goes for any type of testing. Another helpful strategy is to review mistakes. Instead of just checking the correct ones, figure out why you got the wrong question, so you don’t repeat your mistakes.
Finally, being prepared isn’t just about studying – it’s also about taking care of yourself. Get enough sleep, eat a good breakfast, and stay calm. This will help improve your focus on the test day. With preparation, practice, and confidence, the ACT becomes less intimidating and more like an opportunity to show what you know.
