The 2025 College Football Playoff National Championship is set for Monday, January 20, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. This historic matchup features the No. 8 seed Ohio State Buckeyes facing off against the No. 7 seed Notre Dame Fighting Irish, marking the first time both teams have played 16-game seasons—a milestone not seen since 1894.

Ohio State (13–2) advanced to the championship by defeating Tennessee, Oregon, and Texas. Their journey was highlighted by standout performances from quarterback Will Howard, particularly in the semifinal victory over Texas.

Notre Dame (14–1), under head coach Marcus Freeman, has been on a remarkable run, securing ten consecutive victories after an early-season loss. Their playoff path included wins against Indiana, Georgia, and a narrow semifinal triumph over Penn State.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM EST, with live coverage on ESPN and streaming available through the ESPN App. Pre-game programming will feature shows like “College Football Live,” “Championship Drive,” and a special edition of “College GameDay,” all broadcasting from Atlanta.

As the culmination of the first 12-team College Football Playoff, this championship game not only crowns the national champion but also signifies a new era in college football’s postseason structure. Fans can expect a compelling contest between two storied programs, each seeking to add a national title to their illustrious histories.
