Dress Code in Saint Johns

According to the Saint Johns School district records, the school year 2020-2021 dress code violations have gone up exponentially compared to past years. Among all of the high schools in the county there have been a total of 518 dress code violations. According to the records of the 518 dress code violations most of them are given to female students. A professional on body image counseling, spoke on this topic and explained how if this trend continues it could potentially have a negative effect on students mental health. The counselor also explained how because of how the dress code predominantly affects female students it could cause issues with body image and can lead to long-term problems. To fix this issue in our county a petition created by a group of students has arisen, and has had major support. So far it has over 4,700 signatures since April 23 2021.
