Fall and Winter Movies to Cure Your Boredom

The most celebratory seasons are here! Fall and winter, of course. I’m here to give you some great movie suggestions to brighten up this time of year. As the weather gets colder, many of you love to stay warm and indoors while watching movies. Here are some upcoming movies to help you settle in for the cooler seasons.

In November, there are quite a lot of movies coming out, but I will mention just a few of them. One of the movies that I’ve chosen to mention is the next installment of the Marvel series. This action movie called The Marvels will be releasing in theaters, November 10. Nia DaCosta, the director of this action-packed movie, has got us set up for a great time! We will be following Captain Marvel in all her glory. She has taken back her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken vengeance on the Supreme Intelligence. This is a great movie for any superhero franchise fans! Marvel movies usually are a hit and I believe this one will be too. As Carol Danvers, aka, Captain Marvel takes on some action filled scenes in this sequel, we can hope to see more of her character’s extraverted and assertive personality. However, if action doesn’t suit your taste, maybe horror is more your speed. There is a very exciting thriller coming out on November 17! It sounds very fitting for the season with the title being Thanksgiving. Don’t spill your popcorn watching this slasher! This movie will be sure to chill you to the bone. As Eli Roth, the director of this mock trailer turned horror movie, he sets the scene in a Massachusetts town which is terrorized by a masked killer dubbed “John Carver”, after a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy. Eli Roth is a well-known for his hit films, The House with A Clock in Its Walls (2018) and the remake of Death Wish (2018). Some familiar faces show up as Patrick Dempsey stars as the town sheriff with Addison Rae and Milo Manheim starring as two targets of John Carver. Miranda, a student here at Nease whom I interviewed, says that she would choose to watch a horror movie rather than a romance or realistic movie. If you are just like her and love horror that can grasp your breath, this movie might be perfect for you! Grab some snacks and settle in for a stomach-churning experience. If you want a more chilling experience, make sure to get a ticket for a later time! Caroline, an interviewee, says that she likes watching movies during the nighttime rather than the daytime. I totally agree! People tend to watch movies during the late-night hours so that there is more of a creepy feeling and experience. You can watch both movies when they’re released in the Cinemark Durbin and Cinemark Tinseltown Jacksonville theatres.

As December rolls around, the air becomes frigid, and we start staying indoors more often. What do we like to do to keep ourselves entertained? Many of us watch movies to stay entertained. Caroline said that she likes to watch movies in winter the most, rather than any other season because winter gives off a cozier atmosphere due to the cold. Let’s continue with this cozy theme! Here are some movies to keep you busy while you’re trying to stay snug at home. The first movie suggestion I have for you is called Wonka. This movie will be releasing on December 15. Directed by Paul King, this movie sets the pace for a time before Willy Wonka became famous for his amazing chocolate making skills. In Wonka’s trailer, it appears that we’ll get to see how young Willy lived his life before opening his factory and how he came to meet the Oompa-Loompas on one of his earliest ventures. Many of you students here at Nease probably have heard of this upcoming movie, as it’s trending on social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and Tik Tok.  A lot of the clips I’ve watched focus on Timothee Chalamet’s role played in this film. Willy Wonka, portrayed by Chalamet, has a very quirky and oddball personality, but is also fun and hopeful. If you love the Willy Wonka movies from the past, you sure are going to want to give this fantasy and adventure filled one a try!

Switching gears here, this next and final movie is titled Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The first Aquaman was a great success and loads of people loved it. I’m betting this sequel will also top the charts as a hit movie! This movie picks up where Aquaman, the first of the two films, left off as we will see Aquaman rise to his duties as king of Atlantis. Aquaman may be busy ruling Atlantis but Black Manta, who is after revenge for his father who was killed by Aquaman, has been preparing to unleash an ancient and evil force. As Black Manta wields the Mythic Black Trident, Aquaman hears of Manta’s scheme and hopes to end his reign of terror. Aquaman ends up forging an alliance with his brother, Orm, the former king of Atlantis. They join forces to protect the kingdom and save the world from impending doom and destruction. This is a movie full of action and excitement! Jason Momoa, who stars as Aquaman, has done an excellent job in the past with this role and I’m sure this time around, he’ll act just as well!  He really brings the character to life, and I can’t wait to see his performance yet again in the Aquaman franchise. Amber Heard is also starring again in this sequel as Mera, the daughter of King Nereus. Miranda, an interviewee, has said out of all the movies coming out this November and December, she is most excited for Aquaman. If you are equally as excited as her to see this movie when it releases, be sure to buy tickets for December 20 at either cinemas, Cinemark Durbin or Cinemark Tinseltown Jacksonville!

If you are looking for movies to put on your watchlist and want to have fun with either your friends, family, or yourself, make sure to check out these films. I hope you all watch at least a couple of these movies and find them just as entertaining to watch as they sound! If you want a better idea of how the movie will look, you can head online or on YouTube to watch any of these movie’s trailers.
