Governor DeSantis Signs A Transgender Female Atheletes Bill
On June 1st, 2021, it has been announced that Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill that bans transgender female athletes from participating in biological women’s sports in both high school and college. This bill is called the “Fairness in Women’s Sports Act” and Governor DeSantis claims that he signed it to protect the integrity and fairness of women’s sports, “It’s not a message to anything other than saying we’re going to protect fairness and women’s sports”. Although that’s the claim that’s been made, the signing of this bill has led to much controversy as other government officials such as Representative Carlos Guillermo Smith have stated that there have never been any issues with transgender females participating in biological women’s sports before.
