Homecoming Highlights

One of the most anticipated weeks of the year is Homecoming week. With dress up days and the dance, school spirit is at an all-time high. Although some restrictions were in effect due to Covid-19, our Nease students and staff didn’t let it get in the way of showing off their school spirit. From crazy costumes to a football win, this year’s Homecoming was one for the books.

On November 4th, 2021, Nease Highschool had their Homecoming football game and Senior Night. There was a last-minute schedule change and the game was held one day early due to poor weather conditions, but our players were not fazed. This was the last regular season game before the playoffs for our Panther football team and they did not disappoint. Our Nease students left the game with smiles on their faces as our varsity football team defeated the Westside Wolverines in a 39-0 shutout. The Senior football players were honored at the game and walked down the field with their families. Their plans for after they graduate were announced as well as their achievements here at Nease. Everyone showed up in school spirit wearing a 70’s outfit or wearing the Nease Homecoming shirt. Nease football has been impressive this year, ending the regular season with a record of 7-3 and finishing in the district with a record of 4-1. They ended the regular season with a great Homecoming game.

Leading up to the highly anticipated football game was Spirit Week. Each day had a different category for Nease students to dress up as and show their school spirit. Monday was Character Day, Tuesday was Decades Day, Wednesday was Celebrity day, Thursday was Squad Day and Friday was the Color War. Nease students went all out to show their school Spirit. There was every costume you could imagine from The Lorax to Mr. Clean. Decades Day involved each grade dressing in clothes from their assigned decade. The 9th graders had the 50’s, 10th graders had the 60’s, 11th graders had the 80’s and 12th graders had the 70’s. Our staff also participated and dressed as the 90’s. Students got creative with their outfits and really stood out amongst the crowd. Our Color War also brought a lot of participation from our students. Each grade had a different color they were encouraged to wear. 9th graders had green, 10th graders had gold, 11th graders had white, 12th graders had black and our staff had pink. Students did not disappoint and showed up in some great outfits.

Arguably the most anticipated part of Homecoming was the big dance. The original date for the dance was November 6th, but it was pushed back to November 10th due to the poor weather conditions. Homecoming was held outside due to Covid-19 restrictions and having the dance in the courtyard allowed any Nease student to buy a ticket. The theme was disco, and students showed up in their best outfits. Decorations filled Nease’s courtyard including purple and gray balloons and streamers. There was a D.J and piles of pizza for everyone to eat. Over 1,100 tickets were sold for the big night, which is an estimated 1/3 of the student body. Before the dance, students voted on the Homecoming court which was presented at the game. There were four freshmen, eight sophomores, twelve juniors and sixteen seniors who were selected to be on the court this year. Our Homecoming king and queen were Ben Bogle and Amanda Sabater, and our court was honored at the football game. The winners were completely voted for by students and it was very exciting to find out who made it into the court. The dance was a huge success even with the last-minute changes due to weather and Covid-19 and kids had a great time.
