Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School’s Shooter Sentenced to Life in Prison

On Thursday, October 13, 2022, the jury of the Parkland shooting trial decided on the verdict that the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooter should face life in prison without the possibility of parole. This verdict was for the 17 counts of first-degree murder that he committed on February 14th, 2018. The three-month trial came to a decision as the twelve jurors decided that the shooter would not face the death penalty. Family members of the victims are enraged and disappointed by the jury’s decision. One father of a victim, Tony Montalto, said, “The monster that killed them gets to live another day,” and that “Society has to really look and re-examine who and what is a victim.” Another parent of a victim asked, “What do we have the death penalty for?” These feelings are shared amongst many other family members of the victims.
