Orange County and the Importance of Accurate Vaccine Data

Orange county health officials reported reaching vaccination goals at the start of Labor Day weekend, releasing data that 70% of eligible the population had received at least one dose. As vaccinations are distributed more commonly and a greater portion of the population becomes vaccinated, availability of vaccine data becomes increasingly critical. It allows residents to decide how to approach quality of life issues and when compromising health can cause serious risks. However, when news 6 reached out to the Orange County Florida Department of Health they received a conflicting report that only 67.62% of residents were vaccinated. Presence of mistakes like this may be evidence of problematic handling of data that would likely be present across Florida. Back in June, the state health department shifted to weekly health updates with less information from daily ones, suggesting they no longer prioritize resident health information. Regardless of how vaccinations are continually recorded, it may be wise to be cautious, and wary of potentially misleading or inaccurate data.
