Random Student Checks at Fletcher High School
Recently a new policy has been installed at Fletcher High, a Duval county school. This plan includes random checks of students as they enter campus starting next week. The reason for this increase in searches is to ensure the safety of students and staff. Fletcher’s principal, James Ledford, was interviewed regarding the decision for this new rule. Ledford claims the reasoning for the increase in security is to make sure the school is “free from prohibited items, especially any type of weapons.” Extra precautions are never a bad thing when the safety of students and staff members are at risk. Ledford emphasizes the importance of this issue through disciplinary consequences and possibly criminal charges if weapons are found in possession of students. Prioritizing a healthy learning environment and student safety is an important task in the world of education which should always be taken seriously.
