RISE Doro Apartment Building Caught Fire
In Jacksonville, a new luxury apartment complex, RISE Doro, was under construction until around 9 p.m. on Sunday, January 29. The complex went up in flames across multiple floors as firefighters attempted to contain the fire all through Sunday night and into early Monday morning. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) Chief Keith Powers reported that 110 firemen and 12 engines were on scene of the fire. Powers states that this fire was “one of the worst” that the city has seen in a long time. However, no one sustained injuries. Jacksonville locals are moved by the almost fully destroyed building, as many residents were excited for the grand opening which was to take place less than a month after the unexpected fire. “The Doro,” as locals call it, was a “fixture of Jacksonville for so long,” First Coast News claims. Before construction even took place to transform the future luxury apartments, a 107-year-old George Doro Fixture Co. Building stood in its place. Some factors to look out for if one is in the Jacksonville area close to the scene: potential for building collapse, air quality, closed neighboring businesses, and road closures. The Mayor of Jacksonville, Donna Deegan, states the plan to rebuild the complex is underway, but “we are a long way from it” there are multiple permits to obtain and safety concerns to address before repairs can begin.
