St. Johns County Principals Need More Mental Health Counselors
Principals around St. Johns County have talked with the schoolboard about the need for counselors to assist with students’ mental health. Hiring mental health counselors has proven to be difficult for the county as they are hard to find. Mrs. Kunze told News4Jax, “Right now, one counselor can be tasked with helping up to 500 students.” Counselors have a lot of responsibilities and at schools like Nease, the amount of work is multiplied due to the large number of students. According to the school district, they are reviewing data and supporting the schools through internal and external staff.
