The Glamorous Grammys

Popular artists such as Olivia Rodrigo, Justin Beiber, and Doja Cat are up for many categories this year. These fan-favorite, top-charting artists are all good candidates for the Grammy awards, however only one will win each category.
The Grammy Awards is a major award ceremony celebrated every year recognizing musicians of the past and present. The first Grammy Awards started in 1958 and was originlly called The Gramophone Awards. Since then, the Grammys have recognized top musicians in the industry and have brought in a huge viewing platform. The awards have been loved by many all over the world since its start and continues to be a major award ceremony popular in the modern world. As the music industry changes throughout time, the Grammy Awards are greatly impacted.
Viewers can tune in to the CBS Television Network from 8-11:30 p.m ET/ 5-8:30 p.m PT to watch the awards and performances. The Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony is an opportunity for viewers to watch the awards live before the program is televised. The Premiere Ceremony will be streamed live on GRAMMY.com as well as on the Recording Academy’s youtube channel. The awards were originally supposed to take place on January 1, 2022, however an increase in Covid-19 cases called for a reschedule.
The date of this year’s awards is not the only aspect of the program being changed. This year, viewers can expect a change of scenery, as the awards will move from its classic arena at the Staples Center, now renamed the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. The MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada will be the new home of the awards.
Top nominees of this year’s Grammy awards include Jon Batiste with 11 Grammy nominations and Olivia Rodrigo with 7 nominations, along with top-charting artists such as Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish, and Doja Cat. Ella Harrison, a 10th grade student, said she is hoping Taylor Swift will win all of her nominations this year. “She’s so inspiring to me and others all over the world,” she adds.
Perhaps the most popular category of nominations is Album of the Year. Some 2022 nominees of this category include “We Are” by Jon Batiste, “Love For Sale” by Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, “Justice (Triple Chucks Deluxe)” by Justin Bieber, “Planet Her (Deluxe)” by Doja Cat, “Happier Than Ever” by Billie Eilish, “Back Of My Mind” by H.E.R, “Montero” by Lil Nas X, “Sour” by Olivia Rodrigo, “Evermore” by Taylor Swift, and “Donda” by Kanye West.
Billie Eilish won Album of the Year in 2020 along with four other awards.
A 10th grade student, Victoria Gorelik, believes “Montero” by Lil Nas X should take home the Album of the Year award at this year’s ceremony. When asked why she enjoys the album so much, she says “I listen to the album on repeat and all of the songs are a good pick me up when I need it.” The popular artist Lil Nas X is up for 5 Grammy awards, including Best Song and Best Music Video.
The Grammys recently announced that Trevor Noah will be hosting the award ceremony once again. Although performers have yet to be announced, Vandana Guru, a freshman at Nease, hopes to see Doja Cat on stage with one of her show stopping performances. She says she’s excited for her possible performance because “everytime she performs, it is something new and always interesting.” Even though the date of performance announcements is yet to be released, the performers of every Grammy Awards always put on exciting and entertaining performances.
