The Night of Mr. Nease
By Bella Hayes
Mr. Nease is a male pageant held every fall at Nease High School. Senior hospitality student, Amelia Chance states, “It raises money for a charity of choice. Every year three students from the hospitality academy run the event. This year’s charity is K9s For Warriors, so 100% of proceeds go to them. The winners will receive gift cards from local businesses. The event is on November 4th at 6:30 pm.” Amelia Chance is one of the three hospitality students running the event this year, and they chose to give the charity money to K9s For Warriors. K9s For Warriors is an organization which provides highly trained service dogs to veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI), and military sexual trauma (MST) to help end veteran suicide. The organization rescues and trains shelter dogs, then pairs them with veterans at no cost. Therefore, they give these heroes back their confidence and independence. K9s For Warriors is located right here in Ponte Vedra, Florida.
At the pageant, students, teachers, and families in the audience watch the junior and senior men compete for the win. The show opens with a choreographed dance, each boy trying to outdo the other. After this is the talent portion, where the males do their best personal talent. The crowd applauds everyone for their wonderful talent and for coming out of their shell. The final round is the interview, where contestants answer questions about leadership, and fun questions too. Each answer helps develop who they are as a person, which allows the judges to make a valid choice as to who the winner will be. By the end of the night, the judges pick a winner. It is amazing to see the winner, but the best part is everyone coming together and showing Panther spirit and pride.
