What Does the Growth of St. Johns County Mean for Citizens?

Due to the massive surge in the northern St. Johns County population, the school district announced the construction of 2 new K-8 schools. “These three schools will help immensely,” said school board member Beverly Slough. “We need at least two more, and then after that, more than that, but we’re getting there. And it’s certainly three is a great big help.” The county expects an overall expenditure of $193 million in the coming months.

Developers are also planning to build an entire resort along the Crystal Lagoon in Beachwalk. The Margaritaville will become a part of the 348-unit multifamily luxury apartment community at Beachwalk expected to open at the end of 2022. “Margaritaville will further enhance our entire mixed-use project, particularly the retailers and food-and-beverage operators around the Crystal Lagoon,” PEBB Chief Investment Officer Eric Hochman said.

Ascension St. Vincent has recently planned a new hospital in St. Johns County as well, which is expected to open with 56 beds and cost an estimated $115 million. The nonprofit health system added St. Johns County to their radar after building hospitals in Riverside and Southside areas and Clay County.
