Why Join The Vertical?

To any Nease High School students interested in journalism, The Vertical is hosting applications to join the newspaper staff for the 2025-2026 school year. Students will need to write a small paragraph about why they should be a part of the newspaper, and have a teacher recommendation. Applications are due on January 16th.
On a personal note, I am writing this as the web editor in chief of the paper. The Vertical and journalism have done a lot for me in my latter two years of high school. It helped me realize how much I enjoy writing and journalism, and I am really looking forward to participating in my college’s newspaper if I can. I was able to attend the Washington Journalism and Media Conference the summer in 2024, and would highly recommend anyone eligible and able to go to apply and then attend if they can. Journalism has become a big part of my life, and I would not have known how much I enjoy it without this class. If you are at all interested in joining, please apply using the link below.
