Touch…Down?
By Armando Pepaj
On Sept 19, Nease Football played the St. Augustine Yellow Jackets in a losing game, in which the score was 24-28. The question is, did they? In a video of St Augustine’s last scoring drive for the run that scored a touchdown, their running back seems to have been short of the goal. However, the referees still decided to call this play a touchdown. If they didn’t make that call then the score would have been 24-22, giving Nease the ball and the title of true winner of the game. In attempt to keep Nease’s undefeated season alive, Coach Collins Drafts has submitted a report to overrule the controversial referee call made during this game.
The Florida Times Union and News for Jacksonville didn’t talk about this play, but only how St. Augustine came up victorious against our Nease panthers. For example, the Florida Times Union stated, “And after a quiet bight on the ground, when James was left shaken up after a run near the goal line, Anderson delivered the winning score”. News for Jacksonville similarly said, “Anderson scored the eventual game winner”. What do you think about this situation Panthers?
