Biden’s Plan to Lower Prescription Costs

President Biden’s Build Back Better Act was passed by the House of Representatives on November 19th, 2021 with the plan to improve environmental and social issues in America such as carbon emissions and healthcare. Part of the Build Back Better Act is to lower costs for prescription drugs such as insulin. Biden said, “There aren’t a lot of things that every American can agree on, but I think it’s safe to say all of us, all of us whatever background age, where we live can agree prescription drugs are outrageously expensive in this country, it doesn’t need to be that way.” Currently, the average cost for a month’s supply of insulin is $375. Biden hopes to decrease this price significantly, “Whether you get health insurance through your private policy, the Affordable Care Act or through Medicaid, nobody is going to pay more than $35 a month for insulin,”

This Build Back Better Act has already been passed by the House, which is majority Democrat. Passing the Senate will take more work since it is split 50/50 Republican and Democrat.
