Destiny on the Field
By Zane Hassan
Nease football has been nothing short of a powerhouse for the past 4 years. Season after season, Coach Drafts has proven that Nease High School deserved to be feared on the field, but this year, the Panthers haven’t upheld the same reputation. The Nease Panthers currently stand at 3-3 going into week 8 where they will be playing Fletcher High School away from home field.
Last year, Nease beat Fletcher to a close 22-7 game, and although the score may not suggest it, the Nease Panthers had to fight for every yard and every point during last year’s game. Last year’s team, however, had an all-star defense, with 4-star middle linebacker Jacob Curry, now playing at Oklahoma University, along-side 3-star linebacker Kruer Casey who is committed to Georgia Southern. Among them, multiple other amazing players, all Class of 2026 seniors, left the Nease Panthers to face the fate of time. Can the new era of the Nease Panthers get to playoffs in one of the hardest 5A divisions in the state of Florida? Fletcher currently sits at 5-1 with only a loss to Mandarin, the current leaders of the district with Brysen Wright, the #1 player in the country for the class of 2028 which Nease lost to. Fletcher is a very formidable opponent, and Nease is preparing for a hard game against them. The Nease Panthers need to win the rest of their games this season to make playoffs, and currently, it seems that it will be very challenging. Taking it week by week, the Panthers are the current favorites to win on multiple internet pages, like Sports4jax and Kyle McCrone, but it could still go either way.
The question we all wait to see answered is, are the Nease Panthers done for the season, or will they prevail, proving that they can still compete with those at the top level? The Panthers also need to beat Bartram, Ponte Vedra, and Sandalwood to claim the #2 seat in the district. Who do you have winning: Nease Panthers or the fate of time?
