Diesel Fuel Spill in a St. Augustine River

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection responded to an ‘active diesel release’ at the marina at Camachee Cove near the Matanzas Inlet.  They confirmed that about 165 gallons of diesel was released from a boat’s fuel tank and spilled into the harbor. The Department of Environmental Protection placed absorbent pads to clean up the oil but it is unknown how much was actually collected. Leftover fuel can be harmful to people and wildlife as it has hundreds of chemicals. The St. Johns County Office is currently investigating whether or not it was an accident.
