Florida Bans Textbooks On ‘Prohibited Topics’ 

The Florida Department of Education rejected 54 of 132 math textbooks for having topics such as critical race, social-emotional learning, and Common Core frameworks. In a press release last Friday, the FDOE rejected 54 textbooks for incorporating ‘prohibited or unsolicited strategies’ and not aligning to B.E.S.T. standards. The DeSantis administration believes that these textbooks infiltrate political opinions into children’s minds. Meanwhile, Democratic state lawmakers accuse the administration of starting a war in classrooms to boost DeSantis’ political support for his gubernatorial reelection bid. “I’m grateful that Commissioner Corcoran and his team at the Department have conducted such a thorough vetting of these textbooks to ensure they comply with the law,” said DeSantis.
