Florida Congressman Under Investigation
Three people were briefed on this matter and they told The New York Times that the investigation into Matt Gaetz is part of a broader investigation of one of his political allies, a former Florida tax collector named Joel Greenburg who was indicted last summer for an array of sex crimes.
Mr. Gaetz has denied these allegations, claiming that the investigation is part of a plan by a former Justice Department official to use false sex allegations to extort him for $25 million. Matt Gaetz said, “The planted leak to the New York Times tonight was intended to thwart that investigation. No part of the allegations against me are true, and the people pushing these lies are targets of the ongoing extortion investigation.” No charges have been made against Matt Gaetz.
