Google Sued By RNC

This past Friday, the Republican National Committee sued Google because of alleged claims that Google automatically moves their emails into junk folders of recipients. The political committee accused this widely known “tech giant” of discriminating against conservative beliefs. However, Google was quick to reject all of these claims. They said that no such discrimination is occurring, and that the only reason as to why emails from the Republican National Committee could be ending up in spam folders is solely due to the users’ interests. Specifically, Google spokesperson Jose Castaneda stated, “Gmail’s spam filters reflect users’ actions”.

Despite this, the Republican National Committee still claims that at the beginning of the month their emails mostly ended up in regular inboxes, but by the end of the month, the emails that are supposedly more important, ended up in spam. The lawsuit said that this is “historically when the RNC’s fundraising is most successful,” adding that the actual content of the emails don’t typically affect this.

Regardless of their “best efforts” to work closely with Google, the lawsuit claims that this discrimination has been occurring for over 10 months, and is only seeming as if it will continue. No conclusion has been reached at this point, as the lawsuit just came up this past Friday, October 21st, but the RNC is sure that this rerouting of important messages is due to Google’s discrimination of conservative beliefs.
