With the increasing popularity of the feta baked pasta on tiktok, many people have started questioning how the cheese is actually made and used. Most people see feta cheese as dry crumbly cheese, but it’s much more than that. Feta cheese is almost like a whole category of cheese all in itself. The cheese has been known since the 12th century and it has only increased popularity from then.
Feta cheese has many categories and different ways to prepare and make it. Normally it’s milk, salt, brine, then left to ferment for at least 2 months. The process varies from different types of feta (using different milks). Feta’s flavor is changed by the time it is left to ferment, it intensifies with more time. Cheese lovers describe feta as important as the Italians Parmigiano-Reggiano.
