Contact Tracing in St. Johns County
The St. Johns County School District has decided to take steps to improve contact tracing. With schools needing extra assistance with contact tracing they decided to hire an outside company, Maxim Healthcare Staffing Services Inc. They hired the company due to the fact that the Florida Department of Health has not been able to keep up with the demands of contact tracing in schools. They have a one-year contract with the district and will begin working on September 20th. They will provide a team of 6 nurses including medical assistants, practical nurses, and a supervising registered nurse to help with contact tracing services. As of now the contact tracing can take days and even weeks from the time a student is exposed to Covid-19. As for the Covid-19 cases through the district Superintendent, Tim Forson has said if the situation worsens schools may temporarily transition to virtual learning.
