Digging Up the Past

The Paleontology Club explores the endless possibilities fossils have. The Paleontology Club is an educational club that intends to teach students about “how to properly care for and prepare each fossil, all while teaching them how to identify and learn from the specimens.” Mr. Lay, a science teacher, is the sponsor of this club. Mr. Lay states, “The goal of the Paleontology club is to bring the love of dinosaurs and discovery back to the classroom and school.” The Paleontology Club uses fossils that students uncover in the Badlands of Montana and brings them back to our school for the Paleontology Club. Brittney Milk, a senior in the Paleontology Club, shares, “I love that it gives us the chance to learn about the process of fossil restoration and gives us the opportunity to do it ourselves. It allows us to learn how paleontologists do their work, while making it fun and interactive.” The Paleontology Club not only gives students a chance to demonstrate their responsibility, but lets students work on their own time. On average, the Paleontology Club meets two or three times a month. Not only that, but there are also students that come to the lab and work on their own time as well.
