Pylons & Pom Poms

As Tom Brady once said, “If you don’t play to win, don’t play at all.” And the students of Nease High School take this quote to heart during the annual powderpuff tournament. Roles of the football and cheer team are reversed during the yearly powderpuff game; girls will become QBs, wide receivers, and running backs, while the guys will become flyers, bases, and tumblers. Powderpuff always begins with an upperclassmen match and a lowerclassmen match, from there the winners of each match will compete head to head in a championship game to win the tournament(and a huge trophy). Zach Buttacavoli, a rising senior quarterback and two year powderpuff offensive coordinator says “Our method to winning is patience. Being patient and teaching the girls how to play football is hard, but rewarding.” Cheerleaders, a crucial part of football, are also included in this role switch of players. Tristan Voisard, wide receiver turned flier, says switching to the role of cheerleader for the game “…was fun and hard to learn at first but got pretty easy, kinda scary and would do it again.” The class of 2024 is planning on continuing their three year winning streak in next year’s powderpuff game. We are excited to see how our panthers will play next year!
