Anti-Transgender Legislation Proposed in Florida

The point of the bill is to ensure that transgender females cannot participate in woman-based sports.

Steube has created H.R. 426; a bill that gives the power to take away funds from local and/or federal athletic organizations who “allow a person whose sex is male to participate in an athletic program or activity that is designated for woman or girls” (-lgbtqnation), so basically if an organization lets a transgender woman play in an activity designed for cisgender woman, the government can completely cut off funds for said organization.

In the bill, it doesn’t say anything about how ‘genital exams’ will work, but it does state that “sex shall be recognized based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.” (-lgbtqnation). A lot of people have perceived this to mean that schools will be looking at girls’ reproductive parts, or “private parts”, to confirm their birth given gender. Overlooking all obvious issues with this bill, many people are concerned with the fact that these girls are minors and will most likely have to do these exams despite what they think.
