New Jeffrey Dahmer Series Faces Backlash
The new series about Jeffrey Dahmer, now streaming on Netflix, is quickly becoming a controversial subject among true crime fans. Since its initial release on September 21, the show has reached 196.2 million viewers. Many applaud the series’ acting and how well the show highlights the victims’ stories. However, most of the reactions to the new show are full of criticism.
One of the major critiques is that the show is exploiting the victims’ and their relatives’ pain. Netflix has not stated that they will donate some of the proceeds from the show back to the traumatized families, though this has yet to change. Another major topic that is being criticized is that Netflix added a LGBTQ+ tag to the show. Several members of the LGBTQ community claim that they were “gobsmacked” and “disgusted” with the choice, many stating on social media platforms like Tik Tok or Twitter that “this was not the type of representation they were looking for”. While the series has its quirks, “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” can certainly be labeled as one of the most popular crime shows of 2022.
