Pandemic Pushing Plummeting Test Scores
Newly released test scores by the U.S. Department of Education reveal just how much the pandemic has impacted education. The tests were administered to fourth graders nationwide over the course of three months, January to March 2022. The results of the tests showed the lowest math and reading scores for fourth graders in decades. Average reading scores fell to 215 out of 500 possible points, and math scores dropped to 234 out of 500 points. Though the tests were only given to fourth graders, all grades can relate to the low-test scores caused by the pandemic. Experts warn that if the nation does not take immediate and necessary action to fix these declining test scores, this downward trend could be irreversible and impact future generations.
