Panther Prep Tutoring Lifts Off

With the first quarter of the school year in full swing, Panthers from every grade level are starting to feel the burn of constant new material, projects, assignments, and tests. Panther Prep tutors are here to help. Starting after school on Tuesday, September 22nd, the Media Center is open for any student to seek tutoring in math, history, or science. Panther Prep Club sponsor Ms. Milian is calling for high-achieving AP, IB, Honors, and Dual Enrollment students to volunteer to be a Panther Prep Tutor and “Learn, Support, and Lead.”
Tutoring services will be open immediately after school in the Media Center every Tuesday and Thursday to anybody seeking help, regardless of grade level or classes. In past years, National Honor Society oversaw tutoring, since each member was required to tutor students for at least one hour to maintain membership. Now, Nease’s International Baccalaureate program is partnering with the Media Center to oversee tutoring by forming the “Panther Prep Tutoring” club.
Ms. Milian told The Vertical that over 500 students received tutoring in the Media Center last year. According to its 2026 school profile, Nease High School had a 92% pass rate on AP exams last year. Tutoring is a vital way to maintain Nease High School’s prestigious academic record. In previous years, the most popular subjects for tutoring were algebra, chemistry, and biology. If you have a strong record in those subjects, you could be a valuable member of the Panther Prep club.
Students interested in being tutors should reach out to Ms. Milian. “We’re trying to build a pool of tutors to help any students that need it,” said Ms. Milian. “They need to be willing to sit down and help.”
There are some requirements for being a tutor for the Panther Prep club. If a student is interested in being a tutor, they must be a Junior or Senior taking an Honors, AP, IB, or Dual Enrollment course and earned a weighed GPA of at least 3.8. These student leaders will be mentors to strengthen the Nease community and help their peers, and they will receive volunteer hours for their service.
If you are interested in receiving tutoring, just walk into the Media Center on any tutoring day—no previous signup needed. Ms. Milian expressed that she can arrange additional morning tutoring sessions for students that need it. Tutoring subjects include but are not limited to algebra, chemistry, biology, precalculus, and history.
