Sophia Hayes: Senior Spotlight
By Ava Fleming
Senior year is often described as the most exciting and emotional year of high school, and for good reason. It is the final chapter before graduation, a time filled with unforgettable memories and traditions, and moments that students will remember for the rest of their lives. From football to games under bright lights, to laughing with friends in the hallway, senior year is important because it brings everyone together before moving on in their life. One of the biggest memories of the year was the rivalry football game against Ponte Vedra Sharks. Senior Sophia Hayes said, “Winning this game was one of the most fun games of the whole year, I don’t think there could’ve been a better memory for this year. This was one of the most intense games we had for the senior year.” The atmosphere that night was electric as students packed the stands all wearing white and cheering so loudly. With every game point Nease got, students threw white powder into the air. The rivalry had always been intense, but this game felt even more important because it was the seniors’ final chance to win against the sharks. The seniors fought hard from the beginning and never gave up on any point. This allowed us to win the game with only a couple of points. Every senior was so excited and happy they got the chance to win this game and set the bar high for the upcoming seniors for the next year. Senior Sophia Hayes shared one of her memories from the year. She said, “My lacrosse season is my favorite memory. My favorite memory was playing with Grace Chaves; we laughed together at every practice and loved playing games with each other. My second to last game against the Beachside Barracudas we both scored by assisting each other allowing me to get the winning point.” Her story shows how important teamwork and friendship are throughout the year. The bonds created through sports and actives often become lifelong memories that students carry with them long after graduation. In the end, the senior year represents growth and the transition into new beginnings. It’s a year full of excitement, emotions, and moments that students will never forget. Even though it will eventually end, the memories made during senior year will stick with people forever.
