Whale Calf Dead
On Friday February 12th, a right whale calf died after running into a boat close to the St. Augustine inlet. The whale and the boat collided, and soon after the boat started filling with water; 5 people were rescued from the damaged boat. The right whale washed up on the beach in Anastasia State park Saturday morning with many severe injuries from the boat’s propeller. Right whales are the most endangered species of whale in the world, there are only about 400 left. The tragic death of this right whale calf is the second loss of the year and is very devastating to the species.
